Eyeliner

Periorbital contact dermatitis is one of the most underdiagnosed cosmetic reactions in dermatology, and eyeliner is among the most frequent offending products, largely due to fragrance ingredients and preservative systems that are not formulated with the sensitivity of eyelid skin in mind.¹ The eyelid margin, where liner is applied most precisely, has essentially no sebaceous protection and direct proximity to the ocular mucosa.

The Opuliss eyeliner is fragrance-free. Its formula is built on an acrylates copolymer film-former in a water base, with 1,2-hexanediol and caprylyl glycol as the preservative system. Both are classified among the better-tolerated antimicrobial preservatives available in cosmetic formulation, with low sensitization profiles relative to the parabens and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives that have historically dominated eye cosmetics.² Xanthan gum provides the viscosity that controls pigment deposition without requiring synthetic thickeners. The single colorant is D&C Black 2 (CI 77266), carbon black approved for eye area use. No additional dye stack. No fragrance.
