Beauty knowledge in Black communities was built and kept in real institutions, and that history is documented rather than sentimental. The field's own corrective bodies are recent and named: "Established in 2004 by Dr. Susan C. Taylor, the Skin of Color Society (SOCS) is the global leader in skin of color dermatology", in the society's own words. 1 The science has been catching up with the tradition, not the other way around: current clinical writing defines Afro-textured hair as "a spectrum of fibers consistent with established characteristics of African hair, irrespective of georacial origin", measurement replacing category. 2
And the research is clear about what an inheritance-themed collection owes its buyer.
